Another successful day of Vegetarianism. I watched some very disturbing videos last night about the meat industry. These just re-affirmed my decision to go without meat. The Conklin Farms video makes me want to drop dairy as well though. I can’t stand the thought of contributing to that type of torture and abuse. The video was seriously hard to stomach, in fact I didn’t make it all the way through it. Never will I understand what possesses someone to abuse animals in that fashion. I do feel a little bit better knowing that my quiet, passive protest will go towards stopping abuse like that. I only wish I could see the difference that we are making. Some statistics or numbers about animals saved due to vegetarians would be VERY re-assuring.
Todays Eats.
Breakfast: Captain Crunch w/Cruncberries and milk (I’m buying soy milk tomorrow. It’s on my list of things to do). The usual coffee, which from here on out, I will call ‘the shot in the dark’ because that is what it is called at my beloved coffeeshop, coffeepod. Medium coffee, w/2 shots of espresso and 1 raw sugar.
Lunch: Peanut butter / jelly, water to drink.
Dinner: Bajio chimichanga w/o meat. It was mostly just black beans, mexican rice in a tortilla, deep fried. black beans on the side as well. Lemonade to drink.
Weirdly today, I didn’t have any snacks, I just had the above food and a lot of water. Also forgot to take my multivitamin today.
Today went very well. I didn’t have any meat at all, and I have been thinking more about the rules I want to set for myself.
Breakfast: I ate a breakfast comprising of a large bowl of cinnamon toast crunch, and 1% dairy milk. I also had a medium coffee with two shots of espresso, and a small bit of raw sugar.
Lunch/Dinner: I had Dominos BreadBowl Pasta: Chicken Alfredo, with no chicken. It was satisfying, even without the meat.
Some ground rules: I’m not going to eat meat during this time of Vegetarianism. Today was the first totally successful day. My definition of meat includes chicken and other fowl. I’m still going to occasionally eat fish, although I’m not the biggest fan of it anyway. I still haven’t fully made a decision about the consumption of crustaceans. I rarely eat crab, shrimp, or lobster, but they are particularly delicious, and it is usually a special occasion when I do. As far as dairy products go, I’m going to do what I can to avoid the blatant ones, but it’s not the end of the world if I have some milk, or something that contains milk, for example: commercially produced bread, chocolate, etc..
As far as eggs go, I’m still going to eat them. Technically it just a giant cell that will not grow unless fertilized. It is almost the equivalent of the human period (except eggs taste good (I guess I can’t vouch for the taste of period though)). It’s gross to think about, but usually those are usually just thrown away. I think I can still eat cage free organic eggs.
Thoughts?
This is going to be a short update. I’m just about to fall asleep.
Well, I can already tell that this is going to be more difficult than I thought. I already screwed up. Yesterday I decided I wasn’t going to eat meat anymore but when I got home from Vegas, there was a steak waiting for me on the grill; I really can’t refuse my mother’s cooking.
I guess we can file day 1 of project BeVegetarian a failure. Day 2 looks promising though. I still need to lay out some ground rules for myself tomorrow.
