Finding a room in this town sucks.

So the room I was looking at fell through.. You know, the master bedroom in an awesome house, with tons of storage space, and a perfect spot for servers down stairs? yeah, that one.. I spoke with the landlord about getting a key today, so I could move in tomorrow, and I guess it’s infinitely more complicated than that. He said that before anyone can move in, he needs all five rooms paired with 5 students, with deposit and first month’s rent paid.. Which is a complete load of shit. He’ll never find that, simply because life isn’t that organized (unless there are 5 friends that are all moving out together). I guess he new that, because he then said, “We will probably end up renting it to a family, but you’re welcome to put in an application.” pfft. I’m not going to get jerked around just because you can’t make up your damn mind… pick one, family, or students.. and if you go with family, take down your ads for students.. In short, I got my deposit back, and am now, again, on the hunt.

I’ve been looking for a place to live for about 2 months now.. I started off looking at houses to buy, but then I figured that probably wouldn’t be the best idea. I really don’t want to start a 30 year commitment right now. So I started looking at places for rent. Rooms for rent are impossible to find for me, because of the following reasons:

1. I don’t want to spend $600/month — my cap is about $380/month, which will not get me a 1 room apartment at any of the complexes around here.
2. I’m not a single female — All of the rooms around here are labeled as ‘girls only’. Not only that, but the prices for girls are $40 – $80 cheaper per month.  WTF?? last time I checked sexism was bad.. Now I can understand if it’s a house with girls already living there; that could present awkward situations. What I can’t see, are houses and apartments that are completely unoccupied.. They’re ‘Girls Only’ places, that are cheaper than comparable  guy’s places, and I don’t understand it.
3. I’m alone. — My best friend was going to move out with me, but that ended up falling through. The cost of living on your own costs a ton more than living at home. I’m not mad about it, I understand it completely. Money is hard to obtain, and even harder to blow on something that you have already (a place to live). I’ve spoken to two landlords between yesterday and today that have said, “If you’ve got friends, then we’ll talk.”
4. No Cleaning Checks — Sorry, but if I’m old enough to sign a contract and fork over almost $400 per month for a place to live, I’m old enough to keep my own room clean. I’m not a dirty guy.. I may have had some bad habits before, (e.g. hamper = anywhere).. but things have changed a lot.  My room has been obsessively clean for a while now, and I plan on continuing that for pretty much the rest of my life.. It just feels better when you wake up, when you go to sleep, any time you’re in there, it’s just awesome to be in a clean room. That being said, it’s none of my landlord’s damn business whether my room is clean or not. If it’s not clean when I move out, and there is pizza ground into the carpet, then he keeps my deposit; that’s what it’s there for.

Last time I was looking for a place to live, I found it in like 4 days, and was moved out the next week. I guess it was just sheer luck last time.

I’m going to see a room tomorrow, we’ll see how things go. I had to expand my search, because all of the ads for Orem rooms on KSL are either too expensive, crap, or for girls only. Extended the range to Provo, and voila, a pretty sweet looking room appeared.. for only $250+utils!! That is insanely cheap. The house looked alright from the outside, the the only picture of it was kind of blurry. I google maps’d it and hoooked up the street view, but unfortunately the sun it setting right behind it in the shot, so it’s pretty washed out, and it’s difficult to get a good look. I’ll let you know how it goes. Pics if I can get them.

In other news, I need to get up in 6 hours in order to wake up for thursday morning dennys. I guess that means it’s bed time.

what a day.

Started off the day insanely groggy, I think that was daylight savings time messing me up last night, because I went to bed at like 4 am, then woke up at about 11:30.. I don’t do too hot with hrs of sleep being under 8.. oh well though. I got ready and went over to the house to take a look, it was sweet, and there is an unfinished basement, which is awesome. Tons of room for storage, a ping pong table, and the router will be down there so my server won’t disturb anyone. (yay). The bedroom I’ll be renting has it’s own bathroom, and a sweet jetted tub.. that will get used a ton. I got some more details on it, and threw down a deposit. Went back home laid down for a minute, then went to work.

Argh, work was insane.. so many chats, so many tickets. I was rarely not on 5 chats at a time, had about 22 chats per hour when I finished my regularly scheduled shift. After that I started pounding out tickets and got about 20 tickets per hour, which is unheard of.. I was busting those things out left and right. Got to work at 2:30 pm, left at about 3:00 am. The text was starting to get blurry on the screen, so I left.. that would have been bad for efficiency. In 10 hours I’ll be back for round two! <sarcasm> YES! </sarcasm>

I don’t think I could have made it through my day without my iPod, picked a song, turned on genius, rinse repeat. Went through a lot of metal, techno, and underground hip-hop. That thing has some amazing battery life.. I listened to music almost the entire time I was at work, and it was at 75% battery when I left. The only thing I used to use my iPod for was tunes in my Jeep.. but since I can’t stream from pandora anymore, the iPod is my music tool of choice.

Well, I probably ought to get some sleep, I’ll need it tomorrow. Night.
