Apple has completely pissed me off. I have entirely lost faith in them as a company that I would like to support. Admittedly, I am a former Apple Fanboy (camped out for the iPhone 3G, pre-ordered the 3GS, owned a few macbooks), but no longer Apple, no longer. I started to lose faith when they came out with the iMaxi iPad (a double sized iPhone with a colossal bezel and no native phone support). Now that Apple is suing HTC for some of the most ridiculous patents I’ve ever seen, my ‘Apple-ness’ is gone entirely. I may even need to sell the Macbook that I’m writing this on, just because it feels ‘dirty’ to use it. I can’t even stand the thought of associating myself with a company that deals such low moves.

Enough ranting, time to get down to some real evidence of Apple’s Douchebaggery. A full list of patents they’re suing over can be found here. Some of the patents they’re suing over include the use of a touch gesture to unlock a mobile device, or the use of animation when changing screens or windows. How can you patent something like the use of animation in UI enhancement? In my mind, that would be like the first automobile manufacturer patenting the use of tires, or the use of pedals (clutch, gas, brake). I’m having a hard time verbalizing my disdain, but please read this article here. Apple may have business driven intentions, but I think this will hurt them if they continue with the lawsuit. They’re killing the competition off completely. If Apple gets their current demands met, HTC will probably so severely hurt, they may not recover. Winning this lawsuit would also open the door for other lawsuits. They could file one against Palm, and Motorola for the same issues. So in a sense, they are trying to kill the competition off completely. Competition is what drives companies to produce better products. The iPhone is what drove Google to create Android. Android is what drove Apple to improve so much between the iPhone 1.x and 2.x OSs. Without healthy competition there won’t be alternatives to Apple’s overpriced shit.

Ugh, I never should have been nice to Apple. Never again (if their current trends continue), will I buy another Apple product. I will not contribute to a company that low. This probably wouldn’t have made me as mad, but I am an Android fanatic, and HTC is awesome at what they do.

So… Anyone want a black macbook?
